TELENDOS - the Island in the Sun

How do you come here? Make your travel to Kos. It is a short 10 minutes ride with a taxi from the airport to Mastichari, and then board a hydrofoil ferry (20 minutes) to the main city Pothia in Kalymnos. From the small port of Mirties (8km from Pothia) small boats cross the 700 meter strait to the beautiful Telendos. You could use alternate routes to Kalymnos  with ferries from Kos city, Rhodes or even Piraeus. The famous 'Nissos Kalymnos' is sailing between Samos and Kalymnos, entering many island ports en route (Agathonisi, Arki, Patmos, Lipsi, Leros). If you stay on the beautiful island Lipsi you can also enter the 'Anna Express', sailing to Mirties via Leros in less than 1.5 hours.

Walking in the Telendos village

Telendos is a quiet place with no cars, having one donkey and some sheep, goats and lots of hens. And it even has two small super markets. You may walk around and speak with the friendly locals, or use some calories as a mountaineer.
If you sit down at the harbour you can take one  the local ferries back to Mirties.
If you travel to Kalymnos please always add spare time - it's so beautiful

Along the seaside several excellent restaurants are located as well as several places to live, with room and studios with air condition equipments. Our favourite place- where we lived in a good size studio and had most of our meals, Rita's Restaurant is hosted by Rita, with her husband Giannis and sister Petroula at her side. With more than 100 years serving guests in Telendos you can be sure to get the real traditional greek food as it is supposed to be made. We even learned to make skordalia (garlic dip) and taramosalata (fish egg dip) using Rita's grandmothers old receipt.
But remember, there are lots of excellent places both along the seaside and further inside the village.
Telendos has been inhabited for ages. Early structures are located everywhere. In the sea bed between Mirties and Telendos the remains of the old capital can be seen after a big earthquake spiltted  Kalymnos in two and created Telendos in a 14 days shake in 535 AD. Closer to our days, the picture to the left shows a typical old greek house in the hillside above the village.

Most of the small Greek islands depend on their survival that you make them a visit. Quiet Telendos is probably the best choise for your healing holiday.

From a walk along the walking paths in Telendos.
If you want to make a bath, three main beaches wish you welcome. Within 10 minutes from the village you will reach Hohlaka or Potha, and also the Paradise beach for nude swimmers.
